Thanks Water-Roots, I adore it too, and am SO glad that there's lots to explore and it's easier than ever. It's the one advantage of globalization and life in the city. Russian food is simple and rustic, and it's good to have a primer at first.

Hi Tatyana - I am so glad you enjoyed the post! I love the Russian stores as I often don't take time to make pelmeni from scratch, although they are much better. And I need my fix of rye bread too :) Otherwise we eat a pretty global mix of food - this week we've had chinese bbq pork, a thyme and garlic roast, ranch chicken and more :)

Hi Tatiana! What an excellent post!

What a wonderful tour! I love learning about another culture's dishes. I really enjoy trying new cuisines, but most of the time have no clue where to start. And it's much nicer to start slowly, like you said, so as not to overwhelm the taste buds right from the beginning. Thanks for sharing all this great info. Looking forward to part two.
