Dear Calgary weather – you’re no fun.

In the meantime all I can do is come home every night, weed my lawn, look at the pretty flowers and sigh.

However, there is some joy on the horizon – in the raised bed we did plant some radishes, peas and carrots. All veggies that don’t mind a cooler start – that are hardy in gardening parlance. And we waited and waited and waited – about ten days or so. But now we have little baby radishes which came up first, just like the books said they would. The peas are barely starting to unfurl little stalks, but are barely breaking the surface of the earth.

So it’s all a bit of a waiting game – either the weather will warm up like it supposed to, or this weekend will be an engineering 101 project in my backyard.

I hear ya! I’m doing the tucking mine in at night with fleece and flannel, and untucking them in the mornings again bright and early. Can you believe they’re calling for the chance of snow this weekend? I just leave my pile of blankets and towels by the garden. I have a feeling I’ll be needing them for awhile. Sigh.
Your flowers are lovely though! I don’t know what your mystery flowers are, but they sure are purdy!
Hey! Welcome to Blotanical! Whatever the mystery flower is, its really cute!
@ Jennifer – I know, I could not believe the blankets required in June! A co-worker of mine already lost some potatoes and flowers to frost. Very sad. I wish there was someone to complain to.
@ Jessica – Thanks so much for stopping by and the warm welcome! I love the mystery flowers too – keeps things fun.
I came across your blog through blotanical. Welcome – I joined a short while ago. We are also having difficult weather in Ontario too – cold and wet.
@GP – thanks so much for the welcome. Huh – I guess I can’t blame our altitude for the unseasonably cold weather then. Whew, I feel better already – misery loves company
But do you folks have snow scheduled for this weekend? Cause we sure do!
Be patient and you will be enjoying some lovely weather soon. I hear it is hot in BC so perhaps that will move your way. Here in Ontario, it is a lovely sunny day with rain in the forecast for the next few days.
BC has indeed been gorgeous as my friends have repeatedly pointed out to me… Unfortunately the Rockies prevent any nice weather from crossing over. We’re on our own here. I hear ON has had it rough too but here’s to hoping for a nice July!
